Design Elements · Fire Features # Fire Features: 15 from real Napa & North Bay projects A fire feature gives a destination a reason to exist after dark — it's the anchor that pulls people out and keeps them there. I design the space around it first: how many people gather, how they face each other, how it connects to the kitchen or the patio. Then the feature itself gets placed so it reads well from inside the house too, because it's part of the daily view. Planting softens the surrounding hardscape, and the materials should feel like they belong to the site rather than something bought off a showroom floor.
