Dry-Stream Beds: 9 from real Napa & North Bay projects
A dry stream bed solves a function first — it moves water across a property during the rainy months — and then it earns its place as a design element. I lay it out the way water actually wants to travel, so it looks like it originates naturally rather than being drawn on the ground. Existing stone gets reused wherever practical, and planting crowds the banks to soften the rock and tie it into the landscape. It also invites movement: a bed that winds between destinations becomes a path for the eye and a reason to walk.
